MULTICIDADE – INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S PERFORMING ARTS FESTIVAL is the first Festival in Rio de Janeiro dedicated to women’s production. Sponsored by DOVE and the Ministry of Culture through the Cultural Incentive Law, and the Municipality of the City of Rio de Janeiro / Municipal Secretary of Culture, the Festival takes place from October 31 to November 7, 2015 at Espaço Tom Jobim/ Botanical Garden, Rio de Janeiro.
Women artists from various cultures share their practices and experimentation in the contemporary theatrical production and it’s multiple aspects: interfering in the city as a network in permanent transition, it’s flows in continuous transformation promoting dialog among different generations about doing and thinking theatre and its platforms.
MULTICIDADEl offers the a wide lineup of theatre and art performances, installations, forums and workshops by artists from Argentina, Denmark, Italy, Mexico, Norway, New Zealand, Serbia, Switzerland and the host Brazil.
Focused on contemporary and multimedia theatre production, the Festival presents the work of women who have achieved artistic excellence and are expanding the social spaces for female performance. THE FESTIVAL is part of the International Network of Women in Contemporary Performing Arts – THE MAGDALENA PROJECT, founded in 1986. To this day the Network has had more than 100 meetings and festivals in Europe, Asia, Australia, Latin America and USA.
